ECAM members with a smart meter are able to view their electricity usage through their electricity distributor’s online portal. Meter data records electricity imported from the grid and – for members with a solar power system – electricity exported to the grid.
You need to register on your distributor’s customer portal, which for United Energy is at myEnergy (ue.com.au) and for Ausnet can be found at myHomeEnergy Customer Login .
The United Energy distribution area covers the city of Whitehorse as well as extending up to the Yarra River, and down south to most of the Mornington Peninsula. Areas further east and north-east are serviced by Ausnet. Maps showing distribution areas can be found at Find your energy distributor .
Registration on your distributor portal requires your name and property details, as well as the National Meter Identifier (NMI), which can be found on your electricity bill. This is a unique ten or eleven digit number given to every networked electrical connection in Australia.
Once registered, you can view your electricity usage in units of kilowatt hours recorded over half hour intervals. Data can typically be viewed on a daily, weekly, monthly, yearly or seasonal basis, showing for comparison electricity usage for the previous complete equivalent period. Note that the most current reading available will be for the previous day.
A display of maximum demand in kilowatts (kW) can also be specified, which can give a useful snapshot of high electrical loads and when these are occurring during the day. Knowing how you are using energy is often a first step in looking at energy efficiency options.
